Why the Censorship on this board?
« on: January 28, 2006, 09:11:32 AM »
I recently was viewing my post, and saw a following sentence:

"there's been an obvious pact between media and post-(censored word) government"

The original ward was (get the kids out of the room):

                                                    B E L L U M!!!

Since when is THAT an offensive word?

It is nothing that you did.  There was once a tiff between some people here and someone of that name.  So the name is censured out in the program settings just as a profanity might be.

Nothing wrong on your part except maybe spelling.  Did you mean bedlam?

Yes I'm afraid that due to the actions of a person in the past bearing a name rather simiar to your spelling it is considered a no-no here. It was from the TC Forum that it developed. I What I don't like is that the censor program has started to take that work out of context and if it sees it within a larger word which I think is the way it likely was for you it censors it. Originally it didn't do that but some change along the way in the program seems to have caused it to do that. I think yours is the second post where this has happened, not on the same word but likely for the same reason. It used to only look at the word standing along not buried inside another word. Sorry but that person is still around and the TC crowd still wishes to cause me problems over it so I'll not change the censor program to allow it.

No, was talking about the "post-be||um era," in the Civil-War context.

Hello,

Just as a side note, bellum is the Latin word for War, and is most often used in the context of the American Civil war, with ante (before) or post (after).

Thank you biblebeliever, I knew what the phrase ment but not how it came to be.  Always wondered about it but never bothered to investigate.  JB
