Smelting magnum shot...Graphite???
« on: January 28, 2006, 12:14:14 PM »
:? I'd like to melt down some magnum shot into ingots for future use as fodder for cast bullets. Planning to add about 2% tin as well.

My question is will the graphite coating be difficult to get rid of during the process? Will fluxing and skimming during the melt allow removal , or does it even matter?

I just got through cleaning my melter thoroughly after gumming it up with WW's some of which were zinc stinkers... the whole twenty pounds went south! I'm hoping to not get myself into another mess. :x

Any graphite residue will simply skim right off.
