Deer Sizing based on Droppings
« on: January 28, 2006, 04:16:55 PM »
Here is the question of the century.

"Can you determine the size of the deer based on the droppings?"

and/or

"can you determine the sex of a deer based on the droppings?"

Thanks,
Doug

Oh yea, that's easy. You have to look very carefully and quickly. Once they've hit the ground, the dirt start's to absorb the amino acids and it become's very difficult. Of course it's possible to be right 50% of the time! :gulp:

Fair question unless this buck or doe has hemorrhoids.  Which distorts the
sphincter into a larger opening giving the "dropping" a larger diametrical
pattern resulting in a larger piece of evidence. So when it`s seen in the
wild the hunter things he`s on the trail of a brute or brute-ess
When in fact it`s just your average deer with hemorrhoids.  :D

I thought deer caused hemmrhoids by making one sit for prolonged periods of time in one's tree stand. Seriously every research I have ever read poo poos the idea of determining deer sex from droppings (oops I said "seriously").

I have to admit this is a funny question. No you can't tell how big a deer is by inspecting his turds. You can tell if he was constipated, if he was happy he took a dump, approximatly how long ago he was in the particular spot he relieved himself.  I just couldn't resist.

Seems to me the size of the pile would have to do more with what and how much he ate the day before.......

Cheek or gum?  Really Don..........the proper way is smoked in a pipe.....
