Encore scope base overhang
« on: January 29, 2006, 01:12:08 PM »
Has any one found a scope base and ring system that does not hang over the tapered portion of the barrel? I saw that www.talleyrings has a one piece ring/base, and the front ring is offset to reach around the turret knobs, looks like the base is far enough back so it will not hang over the barrel's taper.

I have only used 1 Weaver and 2 Warne/TC Maxima Bases on my 3 barrels. They all have that gap at the taper. Its doesn't look real nice, but it doesn't seem to cause any problems. The screw holes are far enough back on the flat part of the barrel to hold the base in place and the bases are pretty rigid.

I put the Weaver on my 209x50 barrel 5 years ago because that was all I could find locally. Although I never had any problems with it if I ever decide to upgrade the scope I would also upgrade the base to the Warne/T/C Maxima. Can't beat steel.

I also use the Warne/TC Maxima Bases. The overhang does not bother me in the least.  :D

One of my buddies has a T/C mount that has no overhang. I think it may be a pistol mount but he has it on his ML and it works fine, however since the rings are only about 3 inches apart you are limited on eye relief adjustment.
I use the Talley mount on my .50 cal. ML and like it a lot. There is no gap but the barrel has no taper. Good luck!
