Cabela's "Dry Plus" vs "Gore
« on: January 30, 2006, 02:15:35 AM »
Does the "Dry Plus" do as good a job as the "Gore Tex" as far as releasing trapped body moisture? Can I wear the "Dry Plus" and remain dry in semi-active conditions?

Sort of a Ford vs Chevy question, but here goes...

Gore Tex is likely a bit more breathable than the cabelas dry plus - which is a Cabelas exclusive. Opinions vary. But this is not to say dry plus is a bad option. I own both and like all my garments that use both of these materials.

Again, opinions differ, but the smart money says you get what you pay for. True with hunting clothes, as it is with optics.

Care to tell us what gear you are trying to compare with one another over at Cabelas?? Just curious if you are looking for say light raingear, or something heavier.

I notice that the MT050 is spoken of often and is always rated as the best. It is lined with Gore Tex. Havn't seen anything about the Dry Plus. The MT050 is pricey compared to the Dry Plus. You are probably correct when you say you get what you pay for so even though the price is high I'll go with the MT050.

Three or four (5 or 6?????) years ago I thought I was getting a bargain at a Dick's rain gear clearance and bought rain gear that was lined with something I never heard of. Can't recall it's name at the moment. After wearing it for half an hour I feel as if I might just as well be standing out the rain WITHOUT rain gear. More money wasted.

What do we learn here? Save your money and buy the best FIRST.

i've got a fleece dry-plus hoodie that is my favorite item of clothing... i wear it all year in every situation.  It's quiet for bow hunting, soft, and in a good brown pattern for waterfowl hunting.

The exception is when it's really raining.  It won't really keep you dry in hard rain.  I've got a gor-tex raincoat I wear in the hard rain and it works pretty well.  Actually I have a cowboy type duster that's even  more waterproof than the gor-tex but it's not insulated so I only wear it during spring turkey season and summer fishing.
