I see where somebody makes a .50 caliber 1911 that goes for 2800 ponies? I don't know about the rest of you guys but that item IS NOT on my "must have" list, at least not at that price.

I just read an article on that. It's chambered for caliber 50GI. It's fires a 300 grain 50 caliber bullet from a cartridge that has about the same length as 45ACP, and about the same velocities. It's a specialty gun for people who want the biggest.

Is it worth $2800? Evidently the market is bearing things like this, otherwise there wouldn't be so many people wouldn't be buying things like this.

Is it worth that much to me? Ha! Ha! Ha! A fool and his money are soon parted. It makes me want to start a business based on charging ripoff prices for products that return no value. I'd be rich.

"IF" the cartrige takes off and the market demands these pistols, the makers of all the 1911 style pistols will be offering them. Then the price will drop to about a grand. All those who had to have the first ones will lose big time at those prices.

I agree with KN, if we start seeing a lot of of them they will be cheaper. Heck, they might even start offering conversions for it.

Well, for 2800 bucks, let's see....I could get 3 milspecs and replace all the guts in them with Ed Brown high quality parts and get them all tuned up from a Smith at the same time.

Or I could get a New Colt an 1400 bucks worth of ammo.
Or I could get a TWO new Colts!

Ya, 2800 bucks is a bit much for one 1911...unless it's a Nighthawk or Nowlin, or top of the line specialty gun. Even those are cheaper than 2800 bucks.

Somebody's going to guy some of them though I bet.

I had to laugh the other day when I was reading an article by Wiley Clapp in this month's Petersen's Handguns magazine. His article was about a new Ed Brown 1911 offering that is characterized as an "Entry Level" 1911. The gun retails for $2000. Entry level? Ha! Ha! Ha!

I honestly don't know how he could write something like that unless the Petersens people are all drinking some funny kool-aid. The rest of the article was an extremely and ostentatiously fawning text that obviously was stretching credibility to the breaking point. For example, marveling at features that are generally recognized as standard, like a double-diamond checkering pattern.

The writing was really awkward too. He ended the article with "this is a gun you can bet your a$$ on, and that's the highest complement I can give." Not exactly eloquent prose.

Questor - honestly my friend, I do not consider Wiley Clapp all that eloquent or unbiased. He seems to treat some products well and others with some degree of disdain but hey, he probably feels he is a legend somewhere.

I just received the new Ed Brown catalog and yep, their entry level 1911s go straight on for 2 grand with their Classic Custom Stainless 1911 going straight on for 3 grand.

Now, if you want to bet your butt on a $3,000 pistol, that's up to you. My Springfield Government Model cost me less than $400 in 91 and the most expensive accoutrement is one of Ed Brown's drop in barrels, at $185 (still the same price now). And I bet my butt on that piece every single time I stuff it into my belt.

Geez, for $3,000 I could probably get 3 or 4 Springfields............... Mikey.

everything that is the newest, fastest, or bestest is overpriced.
i can remember when a dvd player was 600.00, now you cn get one that does twice as much for 29.95.
give it some time if it gets popular there will be competition and the price will come down....at least some.

I would pay 3K for a gun as long as my other financial needs were taken care of.

Come on you guys. Its only money. Bill Wilson gets that for 45s. You can't take it with you. When was the last time you saw an armored car in a funeral possession? You could get that gun or one of Bill's and save up for a box of ammo.

Is a new truck worth 50K? not to me. Value is relative. If you like the pistol, there worth it. (they are very nice). Do I have one? not right now, but some day I might want one.

I would like to have one if there was more power to it. The hotter load isn't any more than a 45. I like the old LAR Grizzly 50 a whole lot more, and it was cheaper. It has lot of power and is not big and bulky like the desert eagles. The GTI guns are nice but for 2800 I just don't see the advantages over a 10 mm or a 45 acp.

I guess it's like asking whether $2800 is too much to pay for a camera or a stereo. If you like it and use it a lot, then it's a bargain. If you don't like it or don't use it, it's a waste of money.

In my 56 years I have watched the world (the US in particular) become more and more addicted to instant self-gratification. Along with this is dis-satisfication. It's like when the 3030 was introduced in a smokeless powder. Everyone went out and got one. Now everybody pretty much agrees that it has killed more deer than any other cartridge to date. Probably elk and other game too, if the truth be known. Gun writers that get continual perks from manufacturers and dealers and raises when they help sell more magazines cannot do so by continually touting the efficency of the 3030. They have to come up with something new to sell. They quit making the 56 chevy because everyone that wanted one and could afford one, had one. Something new was needed to get back into the consumer's pocket so the invented the 57 chevy. If you will notice many of these new caliburs shine brightly for a year or so and then drop off the scene. However, the 3030, 3006 and others like the 45acp are like the energizer bunny. A 3030 still kills deer and a 45acp will still do the job. Cheaper by the way.

I would not buy that weapon--It is a nickel plated weapon and the only thing BBQ about it is the grips.

"Pimp gun" is the first thing that came to my mind. "Ugly, cheap looking gun" was the second thing. "What a rotten thing to do to a 1911" was the third thing.
