To my understanding a H&R has a better fit and finish as well as "fancier models. Thats about it as far as I know.

if i'm thinking right H&R is the name of the company of pre1986 when they filed bankruptcy in 1986 (or was it 89??) the new owner (marlin ) renamed the company NEF and so as not to loose sales they kept the H&R name as well. so is there a difference in today’s guns ???? nope , there is differences in models but NEF and H&R are the same
