Shipping to Private individual?
« on: January 31, 2006, 09:42:38 AM »
Hello,
I live in Tennessee. My Brother lives in Minnesota. I want to ship him my Dan Wesson 44 mag. He wants to make me a muzzlebrake and drill and tap for my scope mount. He was a gunsmith for years in Arizona before moving to Minnesota. He doesn't do it for a business now so no FFL. There in lies the problem.

Now I know I could just ship him the barrel and shroud, but I was thinking that he could tune it better if he had the whole thing. I am pretty sure I can't leagally ship it to him directly correct? Is there some way to do this? Or should I just send the barrel and and not worry about it?

Thanks for the help.

Robb

You may ship UPS directly to an FFL holder, and that person back to you.  You may not ship directly to a non-FFL holder.  You do not need to go through an FFL at your location, only at the receiving end.

Just send the barrel and shroud.

Dan, I am  not trying to find fault.  That being said, could he send barrel and shroud in one package and the frame in another?  I'm in kind of the same situation and was just wondering.  Thanks.

I was unaware that one could not send a weapon to another individual, for work to be done on it or as a gift.
I do not think a FFL needs to be applied as no sales are involved.

Feldhege:  You cannot ship a firearm to a private individual.  It must go from one FFL holder to another.  The best way to avoid trouble and possible jail time is to have your local gunsmith/FFL holder send the revolver to another who is in your brother's area.  HTH.  Mikey.

Too much improper and illegal info being posted here so I'm locking this one and really should delete it.

You CANNOT ship to your brother. You CANNOT ship directly to just any FFL holder and he back to you. You can ONLY ship to a gunsmith or the manufacturer and them back to you. Firearms are the serial numbered part or piece so no you cannot ship barrel in one package and frame in another.

Firearms MUST be shipped FFL to FFL ONLY. I'm gonna start ending some GBO memberships if folks insist on continuing to post illegal information on this site. I'm getting sick and tired of it and it is gonna stop. ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.
