Has anyone ever had this happen?
« on: January 31, 2006, 04:12:08 PM »
Last weekend a buddy and I were going to try a squirrel/crow/predator hunt.  The first attempt was the squirrels and then we tried the predators.
We were blowing a dying rabbit call while set up with our rifles, and low and behold we were covered up with crows.  They came in just like we were calling them.  We then went back to the truck and got our shotguns and had a hard time calling them back in with a dying crow call.  I found this to be very bizzare, but I guess it was because it was a distressed call and they just wanted to check it out.  Go figure!!

I would have been like.. dont move, stop calling,  and keep your eyes open. Alot of times the yotes can be just ahead of or just behind  those crows.

Sometimes your call will bring in every bird in the woods. The ruckus is great and is the best thing that can happen to you as it can be heard from a long way off. When you really want a predator to come in, these are optimum times. :D

Yes crows will follow a coyote or a cat in hoping to get the left overs . So you mite had  a coyote or a cat watching you and you didnt know it. This is one of the tail tells that you got a predator coming in. VM

I was calling with my crow call yesterday evening
and a GIANT Redtail Hawk came in low over me and almost started
hovering above my head. I think it was kind of trying to figure out what I was. It makes you kind of nervous with a bird that size that close to you
thinking you may be something tasty...

This is quite interesting as I had this happen during deer season. I actually had a couple of crows hecking another bird which I thought was a hawk above & behind me.
I saw the giant Redtail float in and almost hover just like you were saying. The crows left the area fast.

You really don't realize how big they are until you see one
up close. A truely beautiful bird though.

A few hours ago (noontime), I saw an owl go by my window followed shortly by a couple of crows.  Just now I was outside and the crows were in a nearby tree, harrassing the He!! out of that owl.  All of a sudden, they laid back and started a 3-caw warning call among themselves and lit out. I looked up and saw 3 eagles soaring over pretty close ... including one that was clearly a Bald (not that rare around here).

I have called crows and had them swarm me.and every now and then I have them come to the call to see whats going on when usin distress calls.but I have hawks eagles and owls come to the call also.even Does.one time up in the Mts.I took a Bud that does not get to go very offten.I took him to one of the nicer places that I normally don't go to but to take newbies.its is in a wood hill that over looks grass land for miles dotted with other small wooded hills.you can see the filthy things coming for miles.any way.ther are cow, cattles what ever normally around as there is several stock ponds and tanks around the area.I was using an e-caller at the time and set it in front of my bud,in hopes I would bring some into his lap.But sonn as I started callin.the cows looked up and started movin our way.when I stopped they would stop.I had my bud surronded by cattle.he started hollerin don't call any more.I laughed so hard tears came down my face.we did not get a dog on that set.
my huntin rifle is safe from confiscation only while my battle rifle protects it.
