WI ASSembly fails to overide Veto for CC.
« on: January 31, 2006, 06:28:09 PM »
Dear fellow gun owner:

As you've probably heard, the state Assembly today failed by a vote of 64 to
34 to override Governor Doyle's veto of the Personal Protection Act, two
votes shy of the required 66 votes to override.

All sixty Republicans voted for the veto override.

Four brave Democrats--Representatives Barbara Gronemus, Amy Sue Vruwink,
Marlin Schneider, and Mary Hubler--kept their promises to you and voted to
override. They showed themselves to be true friends of gun owners.

Two Democrats broke their promises to you: Representative Terry Van Akkeren
of Sheboygan, who voted for this bill in 2003, voted for the veto override
in 2004, and voted for the bill last month; and Representative John
Steinbrink of southeastern Kenosha county, who voted for the bill in 2002,
voted for the bill in 2003, voted to override Doyle's veto in 2004, and also
voted for the bill last month.

Clearly, Governor Doyle's wields iron-fisted control over members of his
party, even if his own selfish agenda means those members will suffer the
ultimate sacrifice at the polls in November.

Just as clearly, we will almost certainly not be able to get concealed carry
passed while Jim Doyle is governor.

To that end, our political action committee will be hosting fund-raising
events that we think you'll enjoy. But the serious and sole purpose of these
events will be to raise money for real pro-gun candidates in the fall
elections.

And to defeat Jim Doyle.

The amount of money we will need to raise to defeat Doyle will far exceed
what our political action committee has raised in the past.

We hope that you'll welcome the invitations to the fund-raising events, and
will participate to every extent possible for a worthy cause.

Governor Doyle is betting that you'll forget this treachery by November.

Never forget. And never stop fighting for what is right.

Thanks,
The Wisconsin Concealed Carry Association

That was well said. So true. It never ceases to amaze me how money, power, and political idealogy continually trump common sense logic, not to mention rights stated in the constitution.

Kudos to the 4 democrats who showed some sack with their vote, btw

jh45gun, will the fund raisers be announced on this forum?  If not, can you tell me how I can find out about them?

Doyle is so out of step with WI that it's hard for me to believe he can get reelected, but I'd like to do my part to ensure he isn't.

Some of the Republican legislators should disgust us as well.  The amendments they allowed were ridiculous.  .02% alcohol threshold and allowing the police to look up stops in the permit list are just a couple.  Probably a good idea that it did lose if it meant those kinds of things were in the law.  A couple of police chiefs said they would instruct their officers to draw on all permit holders when stopped.  What Nazis!
We learn something new everyday whether we want to or not.

Perhaps.  However, I think the republicans allowed the amendments to get it passed with the aim of tweaking the bill to drop those types of things next session.  As for the police chiefs, I would think after a couple of these stops there would be haressment complaints.  Maybe we should just sit tight and let the WI supreme court give us a Vermont or Alaska type concealed carry.

I think it's likely the case going through the courts now about carrying in your vehicle will be dismmissed.  Meaning we can then carry in our vehicles as well as homes and businesses.  If it does, I'd recommend everyone get  a sales permit number just to be on the safe side - unless the courts specifically say it's OK for everyone to do so.  With a sales permit you've just become a business.

Now that I have completed the first half of the training, and plan to take the second half late this month, it is clear to me the degree of committment it takes to get a permit (had this gone through).  The class cost $160+240, 900 rounds of ammo, three full long days, then the cost of permitting and background check not to mention the cost of a carry weapon and gunleather puts it out of reach for many people.

As for the police being concerned about those who are permitted, they should be more concerned with those that carry without a permit.  Many are doing that now, and in many cases don't have good intent.  Many are not trained, and don't know their legal rights and obligations.

:D Everyone has made good points. Unfortunately I think Dolye has a good chance of reelection just because he has made no big misstakes and the economy is getting better. He is already promising to give  money out to all kinds of projects and he still has support of WEAC.
A strong candidate is needed to oppose Doyle. Someone with name recognition and a good record. I think voting out Attorney General Peg Lautenslager would help a republican candidate too. :D

Keith some of these guys giving these classes are just screwing us!!!!! To them it is money in the bank. Think of this 150 average for the class x200 students and that would be a low number in a year equals Thirty thousand a year. Now we all know that 200 students will be a low number for these guys teaching the classes and they are laughing all the way to the bank. 900 rounds for what???????? It sure would not take that much ammo to show you are proficient with your hand gun. Sounds like a other way to rip you off. I got a friend who teaches in MN and works at a gun shop in WI he said he charges 8o bucks for his class and it is MN approved. If he gets WI approved it probably will be the same cost. Now who do you think I am going to? As far as a carry weapon goes it should be what ever you want to use. To be honest Keith I am waiting to see the law pass and to see what the class requirements will be in WI. To feed the pocket books of these guys telling you their class will make you approved when you do not know for sure does not cut it with me. One of the Mods at a Yahoo group I belong to for the CC   issue wisconsinconcealedcarryreform  got into it because he is a one of these instructors charging these high fees and the bottom line is HE THINKS his class will be all you need but HE CANNOT GUARANTEE IT.

Yesterday I was speaking to a 30 year police veteran. He assures me that the only ones against concealed carry are the police cheif's and sherriffs, as their jobs are mostly political anyway. Maybe next time!
