well picked up my 3rd beaver after work tonight and man is he a pig!!!! legit 50+ maybe even 60. anyhow i want to thank all who have given advice on how to's of beaver! i caught him in a 330 castor mound set in the creek where a small feeder stream dumps into the main creek. now if i can ask another? is it ok to leave them dry over nite or will they get green belly? also what to do about the fleas if he has any, the beaver i got friday was full of them.

I try to never skin a beaver ,the same day I catch it.They bleed profusely from the head,when fresh.I put newspapers or cardboard on the eloor,where it is nice and cool.I then lay the beavers on their backs,on the floor.I will leave them like this for a day or two,then skin.The paper helps absorb the water and the blood in the head coagulates.You then have a fairly dry,bloodfree pelt.
In all the years I have been taking beaver,I doubt if I have had a handful that had fleas .I just went ahead and skinned them,then put the pelt in the freezer.

Beaver do not green belly easily,By keeping them on their backs they can withstand 2 or 3 days at 50 degrees without a problem.I have only had a couple that got a touch of it.One was in 80 degree outside temps and the other from being on the bottom of the pile in the back of the truck.

Take bogs advice---let them beavers sit a day or two before you skin'em...try it--youl like it.

And I dont know why bogs beavers dont have fleas but 50 % of mine have'em. I spray them with a concentrated kill-all i got from my vet then stuff em in a big trash bag for 30 min or so....then there dead. I spray everything I bring in the furshed as it is in my basement. You could use raid too.
