Always wanted a Walther like James Bond's pistol but they are a bit pricey for me. Then I stumblled on some interarms/walthers and several others . Are they any good ? meaning safe and functional.

For a good little gun that is close, try the P-64 Polish Makarov. It is a fun little gun and fairly cheap to shoot. As a last resort, it could serve as a CCW weapon too. :wink:

My interarms Walther is 30 years old. Interarms was lic. to manuf. Walthers in the US in te 70's.
I rarely clean the sucker and I carry in my pocket all the time. Matter of fact, I was at the range yesterday and a friend was talking about getting one. I went and got mine out of the truck and he popped a few rounds from it. Lint came out the first round.
I would say that is a good weapon. Now if it is new and does as mine, you may have to shoot 500 rounds thru it before it begins to like HP's, though others work right off the bat.
These must be used weapons and as such must be examined as such.
There are a number of copies of the Walther as they have been around so long.

Most every Walther you find in the US is either Wlather made or made under contract by Interarms (imported under contract), made by Manhurin, a French company that has been producing Walthers since the end of WWII, or by S&W who has a contract to manufacture the Walther pistols (PPK). All are produced under Walther contract, which means they have to meet Walther specifications. They are good guns. The Makarov is the commbloc knockoff of the PP. HTH. Mikey.

This is advise a fellow once gave me when I wanted to settle for a non-walther in the 1980's. I now have 5. The other guns mentioned are great, but, they aren't Walthers. The Sig guys will go on and on about the 230...but, it's not a walther. Really...the SW made Walther is a great gun. Shoot it alot before you carry it. And when you fondle it...it'll be a Walther in your hand. Sounds freudian doesn't it...that's what the Walther is all about.

I don't understand. Interarms was the official distributor of Walthers in America previous just like S&W is presently the official distributor of Walthers in America.

I have a PPK made by S&W and authorized by Walther and consider it every bit a Walther ...

Just watch out for the Firestorm/Bersa types. They are cheap, look like a walther, but are pieces of explative deleted. If you know what I mean. I have seen then with frames cracking and such, bad news. The others such as the makarovs and smiths the other fellas are talking about are good choices.
