hello, question. i have a V-PEEP sight from rmc sports on my muzzleloader.the rear sight installs at location of the original sight is on tc hawkins.can that sight be moved forward say about 10-12 inchs towards front sight?the rear sight is blurry and as i slid it out towards the front sight ,it got much clearer.eyes over 50 and open sights is tough. what do you think?

I think that you're going in the wrong direction.
I'd recommend getting a tang-mounted peep sight. They are made for TC's and are readily available. Check Cabelas.

The Lyman 57SML was my first choice for my TC hawken...that with the addition of a fiberoptic front sight made a world of difference for my old eyes!! The additional sight radius makes it a very accurate mdoification. Moving the rear open sight forward works, but the sight radius is reduced, going in the wrong direction as commanche pointed out.

As you can see in my personal info, I've "seen" better times and targets too! As you've been told, you want the rear peep sight to be as far to the rear as you can get it. It's meant to be out-of-focus so that the eye will center itself automatically in the opening. All you are trying to do is focus on the front sight/target.

What helps me the most after installing the peep sight was to place a piece of black electrical tape over my eyeglasses (ie. pin-hole camera). In my case since I'm left eye dominent, over the left-eye, (up in the inner corner) Now you'll need to put about a 1/16" hole in the center of the black tape and start experimenting with placing the tape in the exact spot in-line with the sights as you shoulder your muzzle loader. Get a sharp drill that will give you a good, round hole to view through. Start w/ smallish hole and work up larger until you find the best compromise for sharpness/brightness.

i have V-PEEP SIGHT ON MY HAWKINS now. its from www.rmcsports.com. so, you are saying that rear sight should be blurry,if i am correct.i tried moving it towards my eye but rear sight got more blurry. when i moved it towrds front sight, it got much clearer.in pa. we cant use a peep sight, its illegal ,so i use a V-PEEP one from rmc.

Ya, you've got the right idea. I checked out that y-peep sight that you told us about. How do you think it works for you? If that's OK, I'd say if the Great State er...Commonwealth of Pennsyltucky say's OK, I'd go for that one!

thats best sight i ever looked thru.its open on top. my only complaint was that rear sight and all are slightly blurry to me. it mounts where your original rear sight mounts. so, i took it off and slid it towards front sight. it cleared up a lot better. rmc says it will be blurry but its way things are as our eyes get older and he said front bead is all you are interested in to be CLEAR. that is clear.he also said he can make me a BIGGER opening as when you move sight towards the front sight ,the rear sight hole will get filled in with the front sight. i read another site on here that to also move it TOWARDS the front sight.i also called a gunsmith today and he said, MOVE IT TOWARDS FRONT SIGHT.older eyes are a bugger, for sure.i am going to give your move it more to rear another try but its so damn blurry when i do that.thanks

One more time.........What is blurry? The edges if the open peep sight? That will not affect your accuracy, in fact it should improve it as your getting a longer sighting plane. As you say, as you move the rear sight closer to the front, the hole fills up. TRUE, As it should. Your eye will seek the center of the opening in the peep sight automatically. In competition shooting, the peep sight is mounted very close to the eye with a large disk and small hole that blocks out all ambient light from the sides. It's almost like looking into a scope. Give yourself a little time at the range to get used to using it. Concentrate on the FRONT SIGHT and let your eye see ONLY the sight resting on the bull.

v-peep is blurry.its not a round aperature, its v-peep.i will not be shooting until april do to cold.the whole rear sight v-peep is blurry.you cant put a small aperature in the V-PEEP.it comes with only i size and top is cut out and sight is only about 1/16 thick not like a round aperature sight which is like 1/4 inch deep.www.rmcsports.com enter V-PPEP in search

first thing you want to do is break that RED fiber out and put the GREEN one in.they sell fiber replacements in a pack, 3 red, 3 green. GREEN one made a big difference to me .i really like that sight.
