I just picked up a post 64 M70 in 308 and would like to rebarrel in 30-06 or possibly 280 Ackley. This gun is actually a long action with a block in the magazine, so I should only need a standard (30-06) magazine and follower and a different bolt stop. Is there anything else that needs to be changed?

Only the barrel.. That's a good list.. I love the 280 and the AI version is a little better. I haven't found the need to AI'ize any of mine but bought a custom in that caliber.. I've never felt underpowered with just the 280.. If I want more I love the 7mmMag(rem version).  Of course this year is the 100th aniversery of the 30-06 and there's precious little one couldn't do with an '06.

Yea I will need a barrel cause I decided it will be a 280 AI. I bought the gun from a guy at work for $250 even though I didn't need another 308. The action alone was worth the money.
