I looked ata new Handi today with a NV starting serial. Anyone know when it was made. I am wondering if its the new twist as its a 223. I don't know if it had the new extractor or not. How can you tell?

Hi James!! V would be a 2005, most likely a 1:12" twist, you can tell if it's an extractor if you can't press it in when the action is open, and extractor will extend slowly when the barrel is broke open, an ejector will pop out sudden like and can be pressed in against the spring. :wink:

I too will be picking up a .223 soon. hoping for a 1:9" twist..

The only way i know to get a 1in9 for sure is to get the flutted barrel they only come with one twist .

A currrent production fluted will be 1:9", but anything made last year could still be a 1:12"....the only way to know for sure is check the twist rate if it was made in 2005.

I'm starting to wonder how often I'll be shooting heavier .224 slugs and whether 1:9" will be as necessary. ...that or I'm getting really antsy and wanting to get my project rolling.

Well, it is only made in 1:9" right now(I hope!!), but when it was first released, it was 1:12". The email I got from them made it sound like that was the only way they were made, but that's not the case as Michael's post stated. They were originally 1:12", but sometime last year they switched, so it's possible for a 2005 made fluted .223 barrel to be either flavor. :?

There are a couple good heavier bullets that have been reported to shoot great in the 1:12", the 63gr Sierra #1370 and the 64gr Winchester Power Point, so even if you get a 1:12", you have options. :wink:
