Barrel fitting, remove old shim or stack them?

Hello all :D   I'm getting started on fitting a barrel and it needs a pretty good shim (.009).  However, this is on top of a shim that already existed.  Looks like it was put on with the JB weld method in out stickies.  When I shim up with a non-permenant shim to check the tightness with the feeler guage it locks up tight with no play side-to-side, or up and down and "grabs" the feeler guage as specified in the barrel fitting FAQ.  Here's my question, remove the old shim, or not and stack one on top?  As always, thanks for your time!

I'm not suggesting anyone should do this, but...
A 30-30 barrel I bought here would only lock up on one of my frames, a bit loosely.

The first shim I tried was one thickness of pop-can material.  I've fired about 80 rounds through it, and never did replace this one with a steel one.  It just feels so good that I decided to leave it there and see how long it lasted.  I'm getting 1-1/2 inch groups over the hood of my Blazer at 50 yds which is plenty good enuff for what I use it for.
