How much does a model 83 weigh and what is the difference in weight between a model 83 and model 97?

Is the difference in weight noticeable when traveling through the woods and carrying the gun?

Also, how much does the weight affect the shooting characteristics and recoil of the guns?

I do not know what a Model 83 or 97 weigh and I could not find it on the website. Relatively speaking, the 83 is going to be heavier than the 97 because of the frame sizes. A large part of the answer to the rest of your post is depends.

I am a big boy and even a scoped revolver in a hip holster does not weigh me down while hunting or kicking around in the woods. My scoped revolvers are equipped with sling swivle studs and are usually carried with the sling as opposed to a holster. I happen to find the Model 83 with a 6" barrel to be absolutley fantastic for carrying on my side. Either the .454 or the .475 will give you a package that is dependable and packable; something you carry on your hip all day and place under your pillow at night.

Coincedence!!
I friend just left who has both guns for sale that I'm contemplating..
Both are 5.5 inch barrels and Premiere grades. The '97 weighs 37 ounces and the '83 is 52 ounces on the old Brownells trigger scale.
Calibers are .45 Colt and .454 Casull respectively.

It's funny that you both talked about 45 or .454 and 5.5 or 6 inch barrels, those are the calibers and barrel lengths I'm most interested in.

I know that the loads can vary for 45 and 454 in the 97 and 83 but how do they each handle recoil? Is one more pleasant to shoot than the other?

Depends a great deal on how the .454 is loaded. It can either be a dream to shoot, or as Zeus puts it, quite rude.

Hitman is right, I do think that the 454s recoil can definetely grab your attention but the part of it that I think is "rude" is the effect that it has on deer. Its great. Makes me smile. :lol:
