picked one up yesterday.iron sights and in a laminated stock.the stock has a bit of a red tint to it.
if it shoots as good as the 25-06 I will be happy.

:) Adding another Handi to the list huh?...Hope she shoots well for ya. A great caliber for a Handi rifle and a lot of fun. I hope to get another later on.

I thought it would go good with the 44 mag smith mountain gun :grin:
I have a bunch of 44 already loaded up to try so will go to the range this week and try it out.

Very nice 8) . Those Lams are harder to find than the normal Camo ones. Looks like the firebrick color, like you said a deeper red tint....Like one of Macs sets except his is Monte. Hopefully he will post a pic to compare as I can't find it in the search. Keep us posted when you get out to shoot it.

Yeah, I got a line on some new stuff comin in a couple weeks to a shop up north.  He says they have the Squire Lams on them.  I can hardly wait.  Nice looking stocks.  Congrats on the 44mag

Yeap, there are a few floating around out there. I really wish NEF would offer them again as well as the Black Lams. It would be awesome to have a choice of more Laminated colors.

texpete that stock set looks like the one they used to fit  to the delux turky 12 gage shotgun. i think they stoped that one end of 2004, tim would no the year beter.

sat down this morning and loaded up a batch of 240 and 200 gr jacketed bullets to see what this rifle can do.
used 2400 and AA#9 for powder.now to see how it does on paper.

My go-to load for 44 mag is 24gn IMR-4227 behind a 240 gn Remington SJHP.

I like the same powder charge behind the Hornady 265gn flat point(#4300).

Plinkin' loads:
15.0 gn blue dot/240jacket or hardcast
With 240 gn hardcast LSWC or Keith-type:
10.0 W231 or 12.0 Win 452AA or 6.5 red dot.  The red dot load gave me 1030fps out of my 10-1/2" super Blackhawk.

The 24.0 of 4227 behind the 265 grain bullet produced 1425 fps out of the 10-1/2" gun.

went out at shot it today.its a keeper :grin: .the 240 gr jsp with the AA#9 turned some very tight groups.
even tried some of "my" cast 240 swc's with good sucess.
I guess I must be lucky 2 good handi's in a row.

Maybe I didn't go far enough back but this seems to be about the closest I've seen so far in mentioning much about the Handi in .44 mag so will ask my questions here.

I've heard that the recoil on the .44 Handi is somewhat stout.  Comments?  I thought of getting one and if the kick was too much for some of the younger ones I'll be teaching with it I could always load it down.

Does anyone shoot cast lead bullets in theirs?  How do they work?  Been thinking of trying a Saeco 250 gr. RNFPGC in one.

Would appreciate any good evaluations on the .44's in the Handi.

I love to introduce people to my Ruger SBH with two rounds of specials, 2 mid-range loads with blue dot, and two hunting rounds with a full load of W296. It is funny to see their eyes get wider as the move up in power.

While the hunting loads are somewhat stout in the pistol, my kids and nephews love shooting even the hunting loads in my synthetic stocked Handi. Give it a shot. I think you will love it too.

If I am not being to nosey, what is the scope you have on your very NICE looking rifle in the photo? I like the overall size and the way it looks.

Just about everyone can shoot the 44 mag. Handi,its very low on recoil in my Handi. Even when rechambered to the 445 supermag,its still not bad. Digger

Thanks Stomp! The scope is a Mueller Tac II on a .270 UltraComp.

My next gun will be an NEF Handi .44 mag. Yes, laminated stocks would be a great option in the red and black lam. I don`t like the synthetic, the pallet wood is fine, but the lam rules!! Jack.
