Thinking about getting a new bow?
« on: February 05, 2006, 08:18:30 AM »
I have been bow hunting for about 8 years now and am thinking of upgrading my gear.  Now I have a "old" Person Spoiler Plus.  I pull weight is 58# on what I think is a 55" draw.  I looking for some imput on the bow for several years.  My budget is going to be $300 area.  I would like to keep most of the gear on my old one.  For ex. my peep sight, arrows (2117).  I guess I am going to have to spend more time in the bow section instead of the firearm side to see what is good for my needs.

I might advocate going used, especially if you have good gear from your old bow. With $300, you can good a fairly good used bow from a higher end company than you otherwise might if you had to buy new. The only major downside I've seen to buying a good used bow is the lack of a warrantee. Of course, as with any used piece of equipment, it's imporant to get one that is well taken care of and in good shape, but if you do, it might be a cheap way to get a good bow.
You only take one shot at a time, so don't waste it :cb2:

Theres good deals to be found online for brand new bows too. I got a Martin Jaguar 55-70 lb with a sight & peep for  $300 delivered to my door. Mt boss picked up the same bow a few years ago from a shop & all set up with a dozen arrows he paid over $600.
I got mine thru F&S discount archery.  http://www.fsdiscountarchery.com/
They dont stock them but order them from the manufacturer & get it shipped to your house. Took a few weeks but I survived.
Especially if you intend on useing your present hardware I'd look online.

P.S.  You must be huge with a 55" draw! Might be hard to find a bow that fits.  :)

If they still make them, a PSE Nova V-4. It's a dual cam bow. I've heard that people say that it is a beginner's bow. Well, it might be , but I still hunt with mine. Shooting at 265 fps, and hardly any sound when you release. It has plenty of juice too! I also have a Martin Jag. I will put my Jag up against any mathews or bow tech. The main thing is having someone who KNOWS HOW to setit up right! I got my Nova BRAND NEW for 159.00 dollars plus tax. My martin I bought for 259.00 dollars OTD. Using 2117 arrows are pretty good, but they are a little heavy. Personally, I wouldn't go above 100 gr. broadhead. Look for some deals, but the nova has served me well for 6 yrs and it's my first choice when I go to the woods!

I will take $200.00 for the whole set-up. It also comes with 8 Easton aluminum arrows and three Easton Epic carbon arrows. It has the drop in Whisker Biscuit, Limbsavers, and a Cobra sight. It is set up on a 29"draw length at 65 pounds. It is very quiet. Also comes with the quiver.
It is a PSE NOVA Vector 4.

I shot 30+ deer and one bear with my Pearson Flame.  Great dependable bow.

For a good entry level replacement bow, why not take a look at Parkers.  A friend just bought one and he loves it.  The high priced bows are nice, fast and accurate.  But most prople do not need top end.

Try Ebay. Usually lots of them listed there.
