AR-15 bolt assist?
« on: February 07, 2006, 04:39:12 AM »
My little brother just bought an Armalaite M15A4 and the seller told him that if he wanted to save his brass he could hold the bolt assist down when firing and this would lock the bolt, he could then manually cycle the bolt by hand and collect his brass.  I have never heard of this and everthing I read about the AR-15 and its variants mentions the bolt assist only as a means to ensure chambering.  I am worried about him trying this and damaging his new rifle.
It's probably a stupid question, but I do not want him to hurt himself or his new rifle, and I thought it would recieve more traffic here than in the semi-auto forum, we are talking about brass collection.
So, has anyone else heard of this or tried it, or was the seller grossly misinformed?
Thanks

Bovine digestive byproduct!

Go to:

and buy a brass catcher.
