Does anyone have any loads that work for 50 grain bullets in .22 Rem Jet?

Don't most Jets use a .222 bullet?

I called T/C shortly after I got this barrel and they told me their barrels were for .224 bullets.

I called TC this morning to discover whether the comments in the Hornady manual about TC's Jet barrel are correct.  The woman would not discuss anything related to handloading.

I explained to her that it is in TC's interest to clarify this detail about the bore diameter of their barrels, but she was simply following orders about any and all discussions about reloading.  She brought up their fire, as if that is relevent.

In any case, I have a Model 53 revolver and a Contender for this cartridge, so I need to know, not assume.

I guess I will slug mine with a .22 RF bullet, and send a letter to TC about the issue.

Any .22 centerfire firearm manufactured in the last 50 years should shoot .224 bullets. I think it will be a waste of time to slug the barrel. What seems to be the problem? Load some .224 bullets and test it.

The S&W Model 53 revolver is bored for .22 rimfire size bullets, .222 diameter.  Mine was manufactured in the first year of production, 1961.  The last revolver was made in 1974.

Hornady reports the TC barrel is bored for .223 or .224 bullets.  Well, maybe it is, but knowing is everything, guessing is nothing.  I have no problem shooting a .224 diameter jacketed bullet in a Hornet size bore, but I'm not interested in shooting one through a bore that is two thousandths undersize.

In this case, the bore matters.

My Speer No. 6 reloading manual - 1964 - lists loads for the .22 Rem Jet using .223 bullets. It states that 2400 was best for uniformity. Loads with the 40 and 45 grain bullet both use 10.5 grains of 2400 as max. and 9.5 grains as starting. Not much leeway here.

I have used these four loads with good success in my 53's, but be sure to keep your chambers dry. I clean the chambers and loaded rounds with lighter fluid, it helps. I don't load anything too hot. I don't use any .224 dia bullets in the Jet.

So far I've tried the .222 Hornady bullet with mil loads of 296, H110, and IMR 4227 in my Model 53.  I've been too busy to shoot the Contender but I should have time to try it this weekend.  I dried the cylinders with a clean patch but didn't go to any particular extra trouble and didn't have trouble with set back.  I don't intend to shoot stiff loads in this revolver anyway.

.223 diameter Hornet bullets are getting tougher to find, and I have access to one of the best stores for components in the nation.  But, I can order them through the store and have them here in a week or less.

I sent TC an email with my question.  If I don't get an answer I intend to write the president a letter explaining how this particular bit of information is in their interest to keep clarified.  I'll point out that I'll need to sell all my TC firearms if they are so structurally deficient and customer service so poor.
