Which iron-sight .17 HMR?

I enjoy hunting squirrels with iron sights and want to know if anybody has any experiences with the Henry lever action or the Taurus 172, both in .17 HMR.  I am considering purchasing one of these and would like to know if anybody has any good or bad experiences with each or either. Thanks

i would go with the lever-gun, although a .17 just seems to benefit from a scope. or maybe a Ruger 96 lever i think its got irons. Marlin 917's have irons and are bolt-action. or there's the Ruger 10/22 with .17HMR conversion(speed and presision)

At what would be iron sight range for me (close) the HMR makes a mess of small game.  On squirrels you best be able to head shoot them.  I like the HMR for 100 yard shots at tree rats.  At that range I can hardly see them much less shoot them with iron sights.  I do have a couple of .22s that work great with iron sights.
