Would you use/shoot it?
« on: February 09, 2006, 09:41:13 AM »
I just picked up a 30 Herrett barrel with the fancy engravings and marked 1 of 500 made, it's new and unfired, it was seperated from the frame and never even mounted in a frame.  I had planned on shooting it but after getting it I'm thinking of ordering another barrel and just keeping this this one as is.  Will it ever be worth anything down the road or should I just shoot it?
Thanks-Ron

I would reccommend you call Ed at Ed's contender and talk with him.  He knows what it is worth.

Are you going to hang it on the wall?  Is it that purdy?
Are you going to put it in a safe deposit box at the bank?  Worth that much money?

If no to both, go shoot it!!

Thanks for the replies, I think I will just keep it and shoot it.  I does look real purdy.

STOP!  Yes indeed they are that "purdy! I had one & sold it on e-Bay for I think $235. Sell it. Buy a shooter & pocket a bill.  Or use it for a tent peg. Its yours.

Wasn't 500 barrels pretty close to the entire production run for the 30 Herrett?! :) Seriously, someone may pay a pretty penny for it on Ebay.

barrel...

Hi
I thought I would add my two cents worth to the discussion
I believe that this barrel was part of the Steve Herrett T/C set. It had 30 Herrett and 357 Herrett barrels both engraved, his likeness engraved on the side of the frame and came in a fancy case. That 500 is maybe how many of those were made. If I knew how I would post a picture of the set.

500 was the production run for the special engraved ones. Many more "plain" barrels were made. They did come in a set, but I think since the ammo is not easy to obtain, many people broke the set up. It really is a fine looking barrel. It is engraved all over.

There are people shooting $30,000 plus guns out there, why not shoot a $200 barrel.  :D

Well thanks for the replies, I did sell it on ebay and even made a few bucks.  BLued barrels just are not my thing so I turned the cash around and ordered a custom stainless steel.
Thanks-Ron
