Hey guys posting this here just got a project gun that some one started and did not finish. Not going to go into the specifics as type but the barrel is a 32 cal CVA "Squirrel" rifle barrel. Never shot anything this small before my muzzle loaders are 50 and 54 cal. What powder loads for this barrel and what ball and patch combination? The local shop has .310 and .315 ball sizes.

jh45...Assuming you are looking at a squirrel load...20-25grs fffg would be about right....If you are lucky enough to live in a state that will let you hunt turkeys with a rifle...I'd bump it up to 40gr fff...Most round ball guns are pretty forgiving as to accuracy/powder charge, but those figures will get you in the ballpark....

I would start with the .310 balls and a .015-018 patch....but I bet either would work...on my .40 I can use either a .390 or a .395...but on my .54 I better use a .530 unless I bought my mallet...LOL Smaller calibers, the surface area of the ball contacting the barrel is less...so balls load easier...Good Luck

I have a CVA Varmint 32 cal and shoot between 20-30 gr FFFG, Hornady .310RB, and a 0.010 patch. Groups run 1 to 1 1/2" at 25 yds for three shots.

I have a couple of the .32 cals. One is a Traditions flintlock and I shoot the same load in that as I do in my caplock(crockett rifle). The differance is that I use a .310 in the flinter and a .320 in the caplock. Load sonsist of 25grns of Swiss 3ff in both rifles with a .015patch lubed with pure neetsfood oil. I shot the little flinter ina a match this last weekend from 10 feet(matchsticks) out to 125 yards at a 12 inch pot lid. Hit both and had a great time. everyone wanted to know what that little report was from when the pan powder went off..............just a little .32 out having fun............stay safe..................King

I have two of the Pedersoli .32 Frontiers, one cap one flint. Both like a load of 30 grs. Goex FFFg, .315 Hornady ball and a .015" oiled patch. At 50 yards I've had 3 shot 1 1/4" groups.

Shooting the flint is kind of comical in a way, there's almost more flame/smoke/commotion going on in the pan than there is at the muzzle!

I've got the .32 CVA squirrel.......3F powder (your favorite brand) between 20-30 Gr........ I use .310 RB with .015 ticking.....and/or .315 RB with .010 ticking. Great little shooter, I got mine earlier this year and with a little practice have been able to nail a few bushytails........ And had a ball doing it! When the weather gets a little warmer I'm going to develope a tack driving combo.
