I have an encore pistol and am considering a rifle barrel, stock and forearm. Since I have 300 mag reloading components from a previous rifle, the 300 will be a good option. I need to know about recoil and if a muzzle brake is a good option. What about barrel length relating to recoil? I see tc offers a 28" barrel. I am considering the composite stock and forearm. Any ideas?

Cheesehead I have a encore in a 50cal. muzzleloader, a 45-70 barrel, a 300win mag barrel, and a 375H&H barrel. I personally thought the recoil out of the 300 win mag was no big deal it kicks but not so bad that you need a muzzlebrake for the added noise. I just recently purchased the 375H&H barrel and I love it kicks a little bit more than the 300 but it is now my favorite new caliber to shoot. I used the 270gr. remington in the 375H&H and the results were really good. Go on and buy the 300 barrel and go shoot just hold the gun tight to your shoulder and let it rip have fun. :grin:

If you go with the 28" you might want to go with a heaver stock. The composite stock is very light and with the 28" barrel it may be a bit nose heavy. Plus the added weight will help a tab on recoil as well.

If you really want to tame that recoil, use a walnut stock with a mercury recoil suppressor and a Simms pad. If you need one I have one set up that I was using on my 416 Rigby. Worked like a charm.

My go to rifle is stainless composite in 300 win mag. It has the heavy 26" barrel and forearm with the Virgin Valley hanger bar system. I have been using Winchester 180gr failsafes and reciol not a problem.

i just put the 300 win heavy barrell on my composit stock and i dont think the recoil is bad at all !! i shot rem corloct 180gr. out of this new barrell !!!!
and i will admit im a small guy 160 pounds, dont worry about the recoil and save your self some cash dont bother with the muzzle tamer..

I agree, I can't stand a muzzle tamer. There are other options to tame recoil for a lot less.
