Remington Nylon Rifles
« on: February 10, 2006, 04:47:56 AM »
Hello all!  I was wondering how many of you fine people had some of these rifles.  I have 3, a Nylon 66 MB, an Apache 77, and a CBC GR-8 (ok not a real Nylon, but it was made off the Remington dies and it is a 66 so...).  I really like all of mine, and the 77 gets the most trigger time out of any of the 3.  Now if I could just find an 11 and a 76 I would thing my collection is complete.  So how many own, or have owned, one of these fine rifles?

Have owned several over the years. Bought the first ones for both me and the wife back when a $50 bill took it home. Still got one and so has my oldest son. Still one of my favorite plinking guns.

I currently have 2, one is a mojave Brown 66 and the other an apache black 66.  I've had the Mojave brown years, got it in the early 70's it think......no telling how many rounds this gun has had through it........and it still goes to the range every time I go.........

I have a Mohawk 10C.  Looks just like a Nylon 66, except its brown and has a 10 shot clip.  I've had it since the mid 70's.  I've never had a problem with it.  It my wifes favorite gun to shoot.

As much trouble as Remington has had building a reliable 22 rimfire since the Nylon 66 maybe the should go back to making them. With the acceptance of modern polymer plastics they might be able to market them again. The 66 was about 25 years ahead of it's time. :D

You are not near complete on your collection, there are about 12 variations in the nylon line not counting the Brazilian remakes. There have been many interesting articles lately on the Rem nylons and once you get started collecting them it's hard to stop. Trust me on this one I don't pass too many pawn shops without at least looking to see if they have one on the shelf.

12 different variations?  Interesting!  Lets see.....Mohowk brown, Apache Black, I've seen some OD green ones, then the same thing clip fed in a nylon 77........that's six.......What other configurations have I missed?

I don't have a clue how many rounds have been down the barrel of my nylon 66, many thousand, and it still goes to the range with me every time I go!  I think it functions better now than it ever has!

There are bolt actions and a lever action as well. I will check and see if I still have the article that listed all of them. If I do I'll send you a PM to send me your e-mail and will send a copy, it is real interesting. They introduced the gun by haveing a marksman / trick shooter, shoot 100,000
2" wooden cubes thrown into the air, all done with 3 -66's over the course of three days. The amazing part was in 33,000 + rounds in each of the 3 guns - zero malfunctions. The article was in "Guns & Ammo-Complete Book of Rimfires" , it was on the magazine shelves in February & March.

i have a 66 that was passed down to me from my dad, i love the gun its one of the best guns i own.  i wouldnt mind finding one of those lever 66's.  the only problemy i have had with it over the years is crappy winchester ammunition that aways wants to misfire in the gun.  winchester is the only type that does it

I've only ever regretted selling 2 guns. A Marlin model 60 (I believe) and the Nylon 66. The Marlin was a tiny bit more accurate, but the Nylon was more reliable, fit me better, and was a real sweet shooter. I'm going to buy one again some day. I wish they'd reintroduce it.
