--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I tried a few years back to research this rifle and came up empty every place I tried. Since then, I saw that Browning started making 22 lr takedown rifles again, and some of the ones I saw were well over 1,000 dollars for the fancy ones. Thes rifles were based on a model that is a 'later' edition than the one that I have. I am pretty sure that tis one is ealier manufacture, either late 1800's or early 1900's.
Anyway....I figured I would try to find some data on this rifle since it seems that there is a new interest in them.
Mine is a 22 short, Takedown rifle, it is 36&1/2 inches overall length, it will fit into a standard briefcase when broken down. It does not have a model number or name. It say's
22 short Smokeless,
Fabrique Nationale Darmes De Guerre Herstal Belgique
Browning's Patent - Depose
The stock on this one is completly different than any other I have seen. Most of them have the hole to load the bullets on the side of the stock....this one is on the top...I call it the 'Dolphin Hole'. I have never seen one like this anywhere, and I beleive it is extremely rare. It also has a small oval with a crown and inside the oval are the letters ELG. I would appreciate any info that anyone can find or any leads to where I can find more information on what this rifle is and possibly what the value is. I might have to take this one to Antique's Roadshow. I can E-Mail pics if anyone thinks they might know what this is. Thank You, Robert
