357 Ruger 50th Anniversary Flattop
« on: February 11, 2006, 03:04:11 AM »
I bought one of these about a year ago. Or less. It really feels like a 4 5/8" Colt SA. It has deep bluing. It is very dynamic in either hand. Got a gun belt and cross draw holster to fit. Shoots 158gr JSPs best, then 125gr SJHPs and 110 gr SJHPs in that order. I really like the 125s. Anyone know the MV on these in this gun? The Micro Sights are very nice and strong. But it is easy to get cut on the thumb when twirling the gun in either hand. Wish they were polished into a smoother edge. The gun shoots around 1 1/2" six shot groups at 20 yards with the 125gr. About 1" or a little over that with 158gr. The 110s are around 3".

I wanted to get one of the anniversay models.  Haven't found the time to look hard yet.  I have the regular Blackhawk in 4 5/8".  Never found the need to twirl it around any, so can't comment on sharp sights.  It can be drawn and emptied at hip level very quickly.  Haven't perfected soda cans yet, but can keep a chunk of fire wood rolling each shot at 25 yards.   So if anyone tries to shoot at me, I guess I can draw quickly shoot them in the foot!   :)

Steve P. I think if you get the Aniv. model you'll really like it better.  After I got mine I sold my 357  Blackhawk.  The new old model is nice and trim,  it is a joy to carry and shoot.  I have already placed an order for the new 44 mag. Flat top.  Probably have to wait til summer for it to come.  When the urge to twirl comes over me I lay down til it passes.

When I went to look at one I could not beleave how light it felt.I don't have to second guess about buying it.I had every different type of revolver Ruger has made in there  new models, and this one feels the best in my hands. I'm glad they brought it out.

For everyone's info, Sportsman's Warehouse retails the Anniversary BlackHawk for only $419.

<Ignorance>  What does the flattop really give you?  Is it mainly the smaller grip frame?  Looks like the frame itself is just as heavy as on standard BHs?  </Ignorance>

Frame is smaller.  I sold my 357 Blackhawk so now I can't measure the difference with the new 50th. Aniv. Md.  It is a lot trimmer revolver to me than the standard Blackhawk.  As far as lighter I don't know it there is a lot of difference as the 50th Aniv. Md. is all steel.  It is a very good shooter and I like the way it holds.

old and new vaqueros are both all steel so you will notice a differnce in weight with them. With the old blackhawks having an alum grip frame theres very little diffence in weight between a blackhawk and an aniversery gun. Its all a matter of individual taste. To me the old ones still feel better in the hand and balance better for off hand shooting. I hate to say it but especially the ones with alum. grip frames.
