22 conversion for Governement frame

Hey guys :D

 I have a request for my brother. Hope I posted it in the right forum.  He has an extra Government 45 acp frame and he wants to get it converted to 22LR. and he said he wants a steel converion unit for it, and  not one of those Aluminum/ Alloy kit ones.

Anyone here know of a good source for them, or can reccomend a good unit made by someone for the 22 conversion?  If so please post links here for me and I will relay the info to him.  Also if anyone has one they might like to sell that is a good one let me know also by sending me a private message here at graybeards  and/or posting it here too for me.

Just like Teddy Roosevelt said, "Walk soft and carry a BIG stick"  Preferably one with a big bore. If it doesn't Thump your shoulder or wrist when ya pull the trigger, it won't Thump what you're shootin at either.

I by no means did an exhaustive search, but all of the conversion units I have seen have been aluminum.  I have a Wilson Combat conversion slide on my springfield.  It sure is fun to shoot.  

If you were to put a steel slide on a 22lr conversion .45 it would be to heavy and would have a hard time during blowback.   To heavy for the recoil to move.

Hi guys :D ,  I think my brother found an outfit that sells steel conversion units. Some company at  http://www.jarvis-custom.com   Also found an another Aluminum unit at http://www.advantagearms.com  besides the Wislon and Kimber ones also.  So I think he is checking into the Jarvis unit which is a genuine steel unit, so they advertise anyway, and it looks pretty much like a regular Government slide too which is nice and the whole slide moves also when fired from what they say.

If anyone finds anything differnet as far as slides go than what we found, please feel free to let me know.  Thanks again guys.  :grin:

As you probably know, THE guy for .22 conversions is J.A. Ciener (at http://www.22lrconversions.com/).  They ARE alloy; and he's a notorious PITA to deal with, but his product is pretty good, especially the upgraded version with adjustable sights, etc.

The best one I am aware of is the Marvel, lots of serious shooters use it for bullseye competition. They are available through Midway.

Hey Nobade and Peterf.  Yea my brother said he found the Ciener and Marvel conversionunits.  He is just mostly trying to find what steel built units he can find to look over.
