i'm beginning to think that these rifles are a big piece of s#!t. mine is plagued with a large list of problems. if i get it fixed (shooting good) or i trade it off--- this one will be my last. and that is bad to say about an american company. used to you could expect something like this from a foreign company, but apparantly times are changing.

That's always a possibility..it sure doesn't sound like just Jon or Brian are working on them...I hope they didn't move the person installing the recoil pads last year to the barrel fitting department...

That aint EVEN funny! He couldn't put two screws in without stripping at least one of the holes out.

Guess I'll be holding out on sending anything in for a new barrel until they get their act together. :x

Sorry to hear of your problems. Took them 6 weeks to fix a broken transfer bar on sealer's NEW Ultra, under warranty. Kinda makes you wonder if they haven't farmed out their gunsmithing over seas or somewhere. Warranty work should be first priority, and two weeks turn around should be maximum in my opinion.

Then there is the barrel fitting, or lack of fitting. If they would make them right the first time and actually had some sort of Quality Control to prevent these poorly fitted barrels. I checked out a Buffalo Classic and several other models this last year and I couldn't believe some of the crappy fitting I seen. The BC would not even lock back up without slamming the barrel shut with major force. Some of the rifles had side to side play in them you wouldn't believe.

I thoroughly check out any H&R/NEF I buy and am happy to say I haven't been burned yet. But, I have rejected plenty of them that were crap. I went through 5 Ultra Slug Hunter LE's before I found one that operated as it should.

I have not sent anything into the factory for a year or so but from what I have been reading it seems as if there has been a growing problem with the quality of repairs lately....<><....

When ever I have sent in for any barrels..I write a nice letter to Jon the gunsmith and I am very specific in my instructions..I've been very lucky in the barrel fit and trigger pull of all my rifles that I have gotten back..all have been done perfectly and have exceeded my expectations..but...as far as CZ's situation..that isn't acceptable at all..if the lead gunsmith isn't the one doing the actual work..he should at least be monitoring what work is being done...and to have a steel forearm spacer removed and have a plastic one installed is pathetic...I certainly wasn't trying to make a joke of his situation in the least..( just wondering aloud what the heck is going on there)...I would have a hard time constaining myself on the phone when speaking to Gordon about this one...but...I know you have to be nice to them...because the folks you talk to at NEF aren't the actual people doing the work...They should at least send CZ a call tag so he doesn't have to pay for any shipping...and they should make sure it gets fixed correctly this time around with his steel spacer  put back on too...

Agreed. All the work Jon has done for me has been top notch and these are the best barrels I own. And to steal his metal spacer would have really...  :x
But Mac and Tim are right, try to be as polite as possibile. It's going to be hard cause you will want to cuss them out! But trust me when I say you catch more flys with Honey than Vinegar. They will make it right, but it will take a LOT of patience and self control on your part.

I am awfully sorry to hear of your experience cz and I don't blame you for being mad. I am glad you held your self control, hang in there and I am sure they will get it right    I wouldn't except the fit the way you describe it. I would do the call tag, and explain your discontent and ask if they can give you a deal on another barrel in a different cal. They may give you one for all you been through. Just a thought.

Resigned myself long ago to sell and never go back for more. For the price of 2 barrels, I got a terrific deer rifle (Vanguard), on clearance that I have only light oiled the bolt... Shoots great. The last thing I want to do is get frustrated over sub par labor, and old coot barking women.... I was treated like crap on one inquiry...they don't get another chance "to work with me"!

When you call him back for the call tag..tell him then about them switching the steel forearm spacer.Tell him you would prefere to zero play in the action..and see if he will have Jon ( the gunsmith ) fit a new barrel to your frame..not try to refit the old barrel.Also..when you do ship it back..put a letter in a envelope attatched to the barrel and mark it Attention Jon-the Gunsmith tell him to fit it as tight as possible and explain they had switched your stell forearm spacer that you originally sent in on the forearm to a plastic one and please put it back on before shipping it back to you...Also add a letter addressed to Gordon saying the same thing..this way both there will know what you want..

Good Luck with it..and let us know how it turns out :agree:

I sent my 25-06 in for repair 3 weeks ago--it had/has a serious alignment problem as evidenced by the mark the ejector made on the standing breech.

I called CS yesterday they told me that the rifle shipped tuesday; when I asked what had been done the lady said that it had been "muzzled and test fired".  I hope I'm wrong but I'll be asking for a call tag if it comes back loose and mis-aligned--I don't care HOW well it might shoot.  I'll know by opening and closing the action a few 10's of times if the alignment has been remedied.

 ill be calling monday to speak with gorden. it well be sent back. but ill well ask for another barrel be installed. i hope they well install a 30 30 barrel . why you asked well the way i look at it is if side to side play is ok and 3" groups is ok . i would rather it be a calliber that 100 hundred yards is its range. insted of it being a caliber of 300 yards.
