Just further evidence that Bush and his team are more concerned about clamping down on the freedoms and liberties of American citizens than anything else that they are doing.

 :?
They may talk of a "New Order" in the  world, but what they have in mind is only a revival of the oldest and worst tyranny.   No liberty, no religion, no hope.   It is an unholy alliance of power and pelf to dominate and to enslave the human race.

Just one thought occurs to me; are we any worse off for arabs to invest in this country than we are for the French being invested?  How much American investment is there in arab countries?  I guess that's two thoughts.

Kinda like hiring the fox to guard the chicken house if you ask me.

I've been warning and telling folks for at least ten years now that this kinda thing is coming. The folks who have been elected to run this country no longer care about the citizens or the country. They have another agenda on their minds and know that the voters are paying no attention to what's going on. You can't get rid of them and they know it. No one cares anymore and so they just keep on getting put back in office even tho it's obvious they are not acting in our best interests.

By the end of or maybe before the end of my life which doesn't have all that many more years left in it we'll see this country worse than Russia was during the communist years. It would take a major sweep to clean out 100% of those currently in office and the sad thing is at election time we seldom seem to be faced with any better choices. The enemy has already won, they are just taking their time about making the full span of changes you'll see in the next ten years. By then you won't even recognize what this country once was.

I was absolutely blown away when I heard this!  Between the human preditors that seem to be getting more and more prevalent and the crooked self serving leaders of the worlds nations, I truly fear for my six (soon to be seven) year old daughters future.  I sincerely pray that the Good Lord returns soon to gather his flock and clean house.

I see that a "government panel" gave their ok . Gee, i feel so much better knowing that.
Then i come back to reality and hope and pray it`s not the same type
of panel that said nothing could/would got wrong at .........3 mile Island!
That  nuclear power plant is still shut down years later.
If something were to happen and it`s not out of the realm of possibility
now what?  The horse is out of the barn and the damage is done.
Of course that`s all conjecture and besides the "panel" said it`s ....ok
meaning nothing can go wrong......go wrong.....go wrong.....go wrong.

The end of the United States began years ago, it's just that it is picking up more steam and moving faster these days. Our so called political leaders have sold us out starting several years ago with the free trade agreement. We sat back like little lambs and did nothing. The UN wants us to move to the Euro Dollar money system where our money would be worth the same as some third world country. All the little blocks are falling into place and it's too late too stop it now. HANG ON FOR THE RIDE, IT'S GOING TO BE A ROUGH ONE. :(  :?

If cynicism about all of our elected officials were the answer, then all our problems would have been fixed by now.  The idea of foreign investment in this country is nothing new and unless you are ready for the joys of isolationism (witness North Korea) then maybe we should know all of the pertinent details of this latest incursion before we dismiss it out of hand.

That said, I too have reservations about anything involving arabs.  The fact that Chucky Schumer, Frank Lautenberg, Chris Dodd and their like are up in arms about this deal gives me pause to be very causious about joining that nefarious group.  All it would take to tip me in favor of the deal would be to find out that Hillary, her disgraceful mate, or Jimmy the mouth Carter are against it.

Welcome to the plantation. We don't own it anymore, we just live here. We traded ownership for some beads and trinkets; actually VCRs , cheap Chinese imports, and crude oil, and Jap cars. Now the new owners, who accepted all those IOUs, called dollars, want to make some changes, and we, as the previous owners are left sputtering and fuming.  The previous foreman of the ranch, known as the 'elected federal officials' who used to work for us, are going to explain to us how the cow ate the cabbage. Our borders are wide open and our money has left on a foreign vacation. This fact, along with the fact that money decides who runs the government here, doesn't bode well for the future of America. We need to eliminate money from the election process that doesn't come from a representatives home area.

Oh Crap!  Carter is okay with the arabs managing those ports.  I guess that seals the deal.

Let's see, where were those ports again?  I think most of them are in the liberal Northeast.  Ah what the hell, if they get wiped out, who the hell cares.

You should all get the facts first:

1. A London based firm was bought out by a Dubai firm.
2. The London based firm owned a 50% share in several USA companies that operated Terminals.
3. All of the USA Terminals are staffed by USA Longshoremen good Union workers.
4. In most cases the actual Terminals are owned by USA government agencies (State Port Authorities) and they are leased to the USA companies. The foreign company does not own the port or terminal or control the shipping or operations at any other Terminal then the one they lease.

There is no national issue or concern here!

In Philadelphia Port we have over 9 Publicially Owned Terminals. The London company had a 50% share in one of the USA companies that operated 1 of the nine Terminals. There will be no change in the Longshoremen's Union Contracts or their handling of the cargo. It is business as usual.

Lets grow up!

The really sad part is...that is the truth. Business as usual.

Ok tell me why this is such a great idea for the US? Because GB did it? Would it still be such a good deal of Slick Willy had done it?

Why is this a great deal?
Why is it better than having a US company do the same job?
What risk to the US does this deal cause?
Isn't it the unions always crying about US jobs leaving the country? Must be ok if your pay check is comming from outside the US?

Still looks like we got sold down the river to me. Guess I'm just not grown up enough to see the advantage in this deal.

Now PA, there ya go tryin to confuse everybody with facts.  In the end, I think this deal will stand.  If it doesn't we will have damaged our economic integrity in the eyes of the world.  I'm not saying that is good, or bad; it's just what it is.

1. It is called the free enterprise system.
2. Government property leases go to the firms who offer to pay the most money.
3. Government purchases goods from the firms asking the lowest price.

Sure the Government could lease these terminals to someone willing to pay less money or they could pay someone to run them or we could just close the terminals and lay off the Longshoremen!

PS Most sea-going vessels and freight are foreign owned anyway!

This is complex for the administration on many levels.  From the first day of the attack on the towers the administration has been saying this isn't an attack on Islam, but against rouge terrorists.  If he now denies this deal it will appear to the Islamic world that Bush is lying to them.  Then again, I wonder how much they trust him already.

Now it seems that Bush didn't know of this deal until it was all but closed.  His aides did.  One of the hazards of living in a bubble.

Again it is hard for me to approve of anyone in this deal.  You can tell if a politician is lying if his lips are moving.

This just in....

"The overall threat to the United States and security, I don't think it's exists. My belief is that the president and his secretary of state, the Defense Department and others have adequately cleared the Dubai government or organization to manage their ports. I don't think there's any particular threat to our security... I've been to Dubai, and I've seen the remarkable port facilities they have there, perhaps the best in the world." —ex-President Jimmy Carter

The New York Times this morning says the Dubai government is delaying taking over the ports to give the Bush administration time to work out this situation.  Looks like GW's oil pals have come through again for him.  I suspect the idea is to delay and when this has blown over to quietly make the change.

Magooch...I'd be more willing to accept the deal if Seattle and the Puget sound ports are included.

......................TM7[/quote]

The cities that are attached to those ports are overrun with liberals and if there were a chance that they would be cleared out by the UAE running their ports, hell, I'd be doing what ever was necessary to get that to happen.

Meanwhile, if the property belongs to the people of New York, i.e. NY Port Authority, why should the central federalist have much to say about it? It should be up to citizens of NY state, etc.
