Has anyone heard how the new pro hunter barrels compare to a 26" heavy barrel in terms of weight?

Why would they make them with only 28" barrels?  Seems like 26" is more then enough for anything I shoot.  Maybe it's for hunting dangerous game with a single shot.  First shot doesn't stop him you still got a heck of a club.

T/C will take your frame and install the hammer, I don't know the cost but you can contact T/C. That is what I read in the SCI magazine.
I am going to order the new complete gun when they become available. I think they look awesome.

There are some many things I like about the new Pro.  New Hammer, Stock barrels...

I'm going to be looking into a Katahdin 460 S&W or the 500 S&W, seems like this would be a lot of fun.

I like what they say about the stock with reduced vibration and recoil. Can just the stock be put on a regular encore frame?

Cheap plastic blister packaging

It was sad to see TC go to plastic blister packs for the packaging of the Encore Pro barrels.  I looked at one in Cabela's last night and wish they would have kept the box packaging.  

Other than that they were nice looking barrels.  I'm really interested in the 28" 270 Winchester.  With some slow powder you could get that thing movin.

The new stocks should fit any Encore frame. Thats what the rep told me at the Shot Show

I am with you concerning the 270 barrel, I have to believe that with careful, warm but safe reloads with 140 Gr. bullets or for factory load
shooters, the Hornady Light Mag 130Gr., you should be in solid 24" barrel
270WSM country or at the very least, too close to matter.

Imagine what it would be like later to get these barrels out of Fox Ridge
in for example 280AI or 264WM !!!

I may get a 7mm Mag. barrel & have a gunsmith rechamber to 7STW.

Anybody have one of these barrels yet, I just got mine today, in 243. I also ordered a reamer in 6mm AI from Dave Manson reamers, for another project but may rechamber this barrel to, I think with 28" of barrel this 243 should be equal to if not faster than my 243 wssm coyotye with 24" barrel.

I probably woln't ever buy a Pro Hunter barrel, at least not the 28" variety.  Seems like way too long for me.  My 26" .223 is all the length I need for a rifle.  

I'd like to see T/C come up with something like a "Pro Stalker" - 20" medium contour for easier packing.  All the standard calibers.

Ranger, a good gunsmith can cut to the exact length you want & at an
economical price. An added bonus is a good gunsmith can give you a
more perfect than factory crown, again at a decent price.

I thought at one time about getting a factory 24" barrel in .308 Win. and having it cut to 20".  I already have a sporter style forend (the smaller one) in gray laminate to match my other stuff.  I thought the 20 incher would make a nice handy rifle, given that the Encore is pretty handy already.  

I just don't understand all the rage with a 28" barrel.  I could see it if you were a sniper or focused only on long range shooting.  But, what real benefit will that length get the average hunter.  Seems like 2 - 4 inches more to run into stuff out in the woods or in the blind.

I'm not saying people shouldn't buy it, just trying to understand why T/C chose that length over others.  I guess to try and be different given that they already have the 24" and 26" barrels.  Longer gotta be better, right?

No doubt, in some of the chamberings that the 28" is offered in the extra
length will be of no real benefit, in others like the 270, it will be great. Also, the 28" barrels in an Encore is no longer than a 24" in a bolt gun, not
too long for most applications, for hunting in the thick stuff we have the regular barrels allready.
My point is that getting one of their existing barrels in med. contour &
cutting them down to YOUR specs. is no big deal & not costly, which makes
your options endless.
