Does other types of shooting hurt you in CAS?
« on: March 21, 2003, 02:11:18 AM »
Got to thinking (which is not always a good thing  ):  Does shooting IDPA or USPSA hurt or help us when we go CAS-ing?  Just wondering what the posse thinks????

Would probably depend on which CAS category you shoot.  If your CAS category requires one handed shooting with handguns (Duelist, Gunfighter, etc.) it may be hard to transition to that style right after shooting IDPA or any other two-handed (gun is held and shot with both hands) shooting sport, especially since the handguns involved (SAA type vs semi auto or DA revolver) differ so much in feel and operation.  On the other hand, any shooting activity is bound to provide some benefits, especially if you are a Traditional Class CASer.

Now, if you are under age 40 or so, you're probably still mentally and physically flexible and adaptable enough that the above advice doesn't apply to you.

Shooting anything helps, but the thing with CAS is you need to remember to cock the gun for each shot, kinda like going to a manual camera after you've had a moter drive.  Then you have to remenber, when shooting autos, not to cock the gun, as it already is......  IPSC uses pater targets, which don't spit back, remember to keep on eye protection with steel targets.
