just picked up a new to me series1 kimber cdp its a commander lenght slide and a officers grip frame from the custom shop. Odd ball combination but it sure packs nice. Figured it would be as consealable as my mini and be a hell of a lot more reliable.

Lloyd:

It sounds like you've got more than one 45 and have tried several for carry. What are the most desirable qualities in such a pistol?

What things don't work so well?

I've got the Pro CDP II and HOLY MOLY that sucker is accurate!!  I just love the feel of it in my hand.  Its not as easy to conceal as my Para Carry but the confidence I get from its accuracy a big plus.

ive got them in just about every combination. from full sized to minis and i guess i prefer the commanders for carry the most. I have qualms about about any 1911 shorter the 4 inch. I know some are reliable but for the long run if your going to actually use them they usually dont stay relliable for long. I carry usually in an in the waist band holster so the hardest part of the gun to hide is the grip frame. Thats why im a little excited about this new one. Its got a 4 inch barrel and an officers grip frame and is easy to conseal and should still be reliable.

Way to go Lloyd!!  I've always liked that combination.  I did have a Lt. wt. Officers that never did bobble even once, she was totally reliable.  (traded it for a Glock during a stupid attack)  I'd like to find something like your cdp with a Horsey on the side of it, but I don't like the dull finish on the new ones.  Guess it doesn't matter as it is for CCW anyway.  I've been carrying the new one lately, it's a little heavy but what the heck, it sure is pretty.  I just discovered (again) those grips you sent down to me last fall, I'll try to get at them over the next couple of weeks.  44 Man

thats great on the grips. JUst picked up another kimber a 3 inch dont know why im not a big fan of kimbers and not a big fan of the 3 inch guns but i guess i figured id try one more before i gave up on them the price was right anyway so ill have no problem getting my money back if i dont like it. Just heard from dustin linebaugh tonight and hes about half done with my new .500 and i should be getting it in a couple weeks so that was great news too. Been a bad boy lately. I also piced up a old model blackhawk in real nice shape the other day. Girlfriends starting to sqauk a little i guess i should have said i paid less for these three then i did for the 952!!

made her happy again last night when i told her i was going to pawn the 952 its a beautiful gun but i just prefer a 1911. Dusty i took the kimber to the range yesterday and you were spot on. That little bugger is a shooter. I was shooting 20 yards off hand and every group was a ragged hole!! I shot 3/4s of a 3lb coffee can of ammo and never once did it miss a beat. Sure like that one it will probably get promoted to my primary carry gun. Pour old commander will get retired to just plinking.

Even in retirement that poor old commander will see more action than 99% of the guns out there.
