which SA?
« on: February 20, 2006, 10:05:16 AM »
I want to buy a single action .22 to use for plinking and as a carry gun for hikes, and hunting groundhog.  I have a Ruger single six in 6.5 inch with adjustable sights, but want something smaller with fixed sights because I like how they look.  I was thinking about an EAA Bounty Hunter in 4.75" Nickel.  Anyone have any experience with these and are they reliable over extended periods.  Thanks for any help.

How about a Ruger Bearcat?

If your criteria is small and fixed sights, ya gotta' go with the Bearcat.

Yep, gotta get yourself a Bearcat. I've wanted one for quite a while now and just purchased a stainless New Bearcat last month. Got to shoot it a few times already. It's a nice little revolver, shoots to POA., and makes we wonder why I waited so long.

I have a single six and really don't want to spend the money for another Ruger, especially for the purposes I intend to use it.  Besides, I think the bearcat looks weird and the Ruger grip frames don't fit my hand right.

wolfe 21:

I had the same experience with a single six and sold it. It was just too small for my hands. Otherwise, it was of good quality and accurate, but I just never could learn to like it and sold it. I switched to double action revolvers, and have been happy with them. My field 22 is a Smith and Wesson 617 - big and heavy for a 22, but it fits me perfectly.  Sorry I can't help you with a recommendation for a good SA. I only know of the Rugers.

I may try adding a bigger set of grips and see if that takes care of the problem.  Anyone know if the oversize rosewood grips could be made to fit http://www.heritagemfg.com/grips.shtml  Or any experience with the grips from hogue.  Thanks.

I had the Hogue rubber Monogrip on my Single Six a few years ago. I preferred the original grips as the Hogue felt a bit too big and changed they way the gun pointed. But it may work for you if you're looking for a larger, rubber grip.

You may want to give Herrett a call. They're on the web too.
