I just got the Idea to size some of my 405 gr flat point 45-70 bullets down to 452. and loaded one with out any powder in a 45 long colt case this gave me an OAl of somehting like 1.8240.
I am thinking about using something like 8.5 gr of 296 under this bullet and shoot it out of my encore 45-410 This would be about 1/2 the starting load for the 300 gr bullets.

What do you guys and gals think?

Yep, it works. I used to shoot Lee 350gr. 45-70 bullets out of my Vaquero over a bunch of 2400. If they're sized to fit the throats they usually shoot quite well, in my case they were about 3 feet high at 25 yards but dead on at 200. I had fun giving the rifle shooters fits at our range by ringing the 200 yard gongs with my little pocket pistol.
"Give me a lever long enough, and a place to stand, and I'll break the lever."
