I'm always amazed how one person's experience differs from another with this. My brother shoots 50 ft. pistol competition, and he swears by high-velocity CCI. When I was younger, I shot thousands of CCI hi-vel and Stingers, and the misfire rate was about 6%, with lots of variation in power (pop, pop, BANG, pop, foomp, pop). I shot it because it was cheap. I've always had "dimensional" problems with Federal ammo in just about every caliber, so I tend to stay away from it.
I've had the best luck with Remington. I've shot a whole heap of Remington Vipers, Yellowjackets, high-velocity, and target. I recall maybe one or two misfires. I mostly shoot Winchester, high-velocity when I'm plinking, and T-22 when I'm trying to hit targets. I typically get two bad rounds per 1000, and it is usually because the priming mix isn't all the way around the rim. My brother thinks the Remington is junk because he gets a lot of misfires, but we both agree the Winchester can be dirty. I can't figure it out, we both buy from the same stores...

He shoots a Ruger Mk2 or Colt Challenger. I shoot a Browning Buckmark, a Remington Speedmaster or a Marlin bolt gun. I do know that the Browning and the Marlin have heavy firing pin strikes. Maybe that's it?
