scope for 375
« on: February 22, 2006, 04:55:56 PM »
I finally ordered my new 375 H&H.  In thinking about scopes, do I have any concerns with my personal favorites of the nikon or leupold as far as durability?

I have a Leupold VX-II 2-7X33 on my XCR 375 RUM and it has held up just fine. So far I about 30 rounds through the rifle, not much but still no problems as of yet. The scope has great eye relief as well. The only Nikon I have is a prostaff on a 270 WSM. That scope has really good eye relief as well but as far as durability it's hard comparing the recoil of a 270 and a 375. Overall I have no complaints with either scope. I'd say your on track with a Leupold or a Nikon.

I prefer the Leupold to the Nikon. The Leupold scope has really good eye relief compared to the Nikon. With the 375 you want as much eye relief as you can get. When I had a 375 H& H I had a Leupold VariXIII 1.5 X 5 X 20 mm on it. I now have that scope on my CZ 550 in 416 Rigby. But either the Leupold in VXII or VXIII will do the job, also depending on what power you are looking for.   :D

Thanks for the input...I did look up the eye relief for those that I am interested in, and I am leaning towards the Leupold 2.5 - 8, but how does the conquest compare.  I guess in my mind they are all pretty similar, but any input would be appreciated...thanks.

Just my opinion but I think you make a good choice by going to a little more powerful one..  The 375 can reach out and I feel the 1.5-5 isn't powerful enough to take advantage of its full potential.. If you were in very thick bush I guess that would change but then again would you even have a scope if you were ??  I depends all on the application of the rifle!

Yea, if your shooting ground hogs at 300 yards.  :-D  The 1.5 X 5 is plenty for scope for out to 200 yards in my opinion. I guess it all depends on the shooter.  :D

it depends on what your going to hunt with it.....if your going to hunt dangerious game, most of the time your going to be in close-range situations where 1.5-5 is a good choice..... but if your plannin on making the 375 your "all around" hunting rifle, then the 2.5-10 is excellent

375 Scope

I have a Leupold 3-9X scope on my 375 H&H Mag. which I've been happy with.  I used it for plains game and was glad for the magnification.  Since it's a single shot, my goal wasn't to set it up as a dangerous game rifle; if that had been my goal, I would probably have chosen a scope with less magnification.  I definitely would not have wanted a scope with any less eye relief than the Leupold.

I put a Leupole 2x7-33 mm. The 2x is great for close up and the 7x you can reach out there.  :D

Look at the VXIII 2.5x8.
I have this scope on my 280AI, 35 Whelen, and 338 RUM.
