Hey guys,

I was wondering if anybody has any experience with the new Chev Colorado / GMC Canyon.  I need a 4 door hauler, but don't want the 15mpg that most guys get.  The EPA rating on the Canyon with the I5 is 24mpg, and the performance numbers show plenty of available power.

Anybody here been around one enough to know??

A guy that works for me got a Canyon and he hated it.  Lots of problems.

I have an '06 Canyon Z85 ext cab, 4x4, I5, auto and a 3:73 auto locker rearend. I think its a pretty good truck, I had a couple minor problems the dealer promptly fixed. The gas mileage isn't all I hoped it to be but I only have 2,300 miles on it. I was told by people that the gas mileage is suppose to jump up when I got around 5,000. Only time and more miles will tell.

What types of problems did you have?  Were they QC type issues, or something that you'd view as a design issue?


What kind of mileage do you get, and with what type of driving (city/hwy ratio)?  How does the power compare to the 4.3 from the S-10/15?

I'm coming out of a Ranger XLT right now. Talk about problems!!

The thing would stay aligned until you pulled it out of the parking lot at the alignment shop.  So it ate tires every 12k-15k miles.  AC accumulator rusted through in 3 years.  The differential went out... -I thought car companies learned how to build these things 50 years ago!! %^#$$&&.  Rattles everywhere.  It used power window motors like snifflers use kleenex.  This was the fifth and last Ford pickup.  The last Ranger was problematic as well.  I'd hoped that this one would be better, but when the Ford shop manager tells you "that's pretty common with those."  -What!  WHAT!!  WHAT does that mean??!!  
My '96 Geo Prizm (Corolla) has over 100k on it, and hasn't even asked for brakes or exhaust.  If I don't hear some STUNNING feedback on the Colorado/Canyon, I'm going with a Toyota or Honda truck and never looking back.

You did mention Honda truck. I assume :grin: you meant Ridgeline. Take it for a test ride. I tested the Canyon, Sport Track, X-terra, and  Tacoma. Ended up with the Ridgline. More room, better ride, and more standard goodies. 17,000mi later I'm still :grin:

Problems so far an intermittent problem with the power sunroof switch and a small section of paint peeling on the bottom of the door. Neither was what I'd call serious both have been resolved.

Gas mileage isn't the greatest yet. I think I need to put more miles on it before I can give a final evaluation only 2,400 miles on it. 13mpg all city  18 mpg 70% city/30%highway.

the 4.3 compared to the I5. Its different the 4.3 had a little better bottom end torque but fell flat on its ass long before redline. The I5 not the best out of the hole but not bad. Get it rolling man it pulls right to the redline. I like the way the I5 runs. Its a very capable little motor.

As far as Toyota or Honda you'll never see one in my driveway
