First congrats on a fine choice. I have never seen a Glock that needed to be "broken in" per se. They are very reliable out of the box. If you are not familar with semi auto pistols the 3 round advice is good. Keep in mind with no manual safety you are always 5 lbs away from fireing the pistol, and removing the magazine still leaves a round in the chamber. Pass a patch through  the bore out before you start. Enjoy and shoot safe!

I say stick with the 3 round choice.  It will give you plenty of time to get used to the gun and also time between mags to think about how you are shooting.  Don't load mag after mag to full capacity and then burn through them,  you will not learn a thing and only accomplish wasting money.  Take your time, remember this gun should become an extension of you and not just a toy to play with.  Oh, have fun.

:-D   Like the other guys advised ya.  They do not need to be broken in at all.  They wont even burp right otta the box.  The 3 rounds in the mag idea is great fer non LEO types to get used to how the weapon operates and how to change mags.  It will get to be second nature and no problems will develope from that.  When I started rookies on the use of them I would only start with 1 in the mag at a time.  fer several rounds.  Then progress to 3 to 5.  Biggest problem I had was to get em to not look at either the gun,or the mag when they were reloading........  Have fun,and if ya have any question let em rip.   Stay safe...King

ok, back from the range i did 2 rounds in the mag for about 100 rounds, and 300 rounds altogether i love this gun. It was more accurate than i was told it would be. I like just about every thing about this gun, i definetely want the extended magazine release, slide release maybe but i just pull back after reloading, but i think a slide release would be faster

:D   Dragthewaters.       I was out doing a little training last night, and was shooting my little 19,and a couple of mod 22,along with a 17.  Its interesting when a handgun fits you cause you have the ability to hit with it.  That drill will help get u used to handling the gun.  repetative training is the ticket.  Have fun and keep the brass in the air...stay safe..king 8)

Just clean it, oil it and shoot it.  You can take it down, clean it, oil it and have it back together in 20-30 minutes.  I have even cleaned mine with a toothbrush, dishwashing detergent and hot water...then dried it off with a hair dryer...oiled it and put it back together.  I have never had either of mine, the model 21 and 30, not cycle a round.

   Just so you know:  GLOCK recommends the use of, 'Gunscrubber' and, 'BreakFree CLP.'  If you own other firearms, watch that, 'Tetra' around wood finishes.  I, almost, ruined the grips on a vintage S&W Model 41 with that stuff.

There is no, 'Slide Release' on any GLOCK pistol; so, don't bother to buy an extended one.  Those things are a solution for a non-existent problem.  The part you are referring to is, actually, a, 'Slide-Stop.'

The correct way to charge a GLOCK pistol is to, first point the muzzle in a safe direction, then, reach across the top of the slide with your other hand, grasp it firmly at the rear and smartly pull the slide all the way back.   Next, let it go!

Occasionally, you'll meet a shooter who does not do this; he's the one with a, 'Slide-Release' on HIS GLOCK; and you can bet your last dollar that he's never trained to fight for his life with this Austrian, black plastic, wonder pistol!
