Hey alli was just daydreaming about a wildcat for my hangi rifle, maybe a 7-30.Does anyone have any experience with this round ,is it a heavy recoil or light im looking for something for my 10 yr old son to hunt with.Hes a big boy 5'6" 160 pounds and strong , I am thinking of 308 but dont want to give him a flinch,maybe my 44,or 357.Also what about the 7mm-tcuwould it be good with a 22" barreland 139 gr slugs :D

I guess that I am not sure what you are asking when I see the title of this thread. Are you talking about buying a new barrel in any way you want, or are you talking about  re-chambering an existing barrel?

If I understand your question, just get a 7mm-08 barrel for your Handi if you want a 7mm something or another. A 7-30 Waters or 7mmTCU would only be possible with a rebored and rechambered .223 barrel, cost would be $300 or more.

The Ackley Improvement is the only thing I can think of for rechamberin' a .30-30. That'd be more effective in a lever or pump action than a single shot since it allows heavier loads.  :D

If you are looking at buying a new barrel & you like a 7mm, like Quickdtoo said, get the 7mm08. You can load down to the levels of lessor
7mm rounds & as your son grows, you can load accordingly & the 7mm08 is a most excellant Whitetail round.
