My grandma gave me a derringer that she was given when she was very young. I'm a great grandpa so you know how long ago that was. It holds .22 rimfire shorts and the only marking is Smith's Patent 1873. It looks like nickle coating and has walnut grips. It has a round barrel.

Grandma took care of an elderly lady and she gave it to grandma. Not sure why. Anyone know anything about this gun?

All I can seem to find is it was made by Otis Smith of Rockfall, Connecticut....

Otis A. Smith manufactured tools and pistols in Rockfall, Ct.

Smith, Otis A. Manufacturer of revolvers, c. 1873-90 in Middlefield and Rockfall, Connecticut

Thanks for the info. Several years ago (I think) American Rifleman had an article on The Smith that Wasn't with Wesson. I wonder if that's the same guy. I have taken this to gun shows, etc. and no one seems to be able to identify it. It was probably more of a lady's gun, but I'm not sure.
