OTT Barrel Question
« on: February 26, 2006, 03:18:05 AM »
I see lots of people singing high praise about OTT barrels and the way they are chambered.  I am very interested in his method.  My question is though if this is a state of the art pocess how come benchrest shooters and big name barrel manufacturers (Kreiger, Broughton, Lilja, ect.) are not using it.  Even big name gunsmiths are using the old reamer method.  Not knocking the barrels just trying to do some research.
THanks

Ott's specific EDM process has been patented.  By the way, OTT custom barrels are actually priced less than many custom makers, especially their Encore and Contender pistol barrels.  No one is cutting EDM chambers like OTT because it is a proprietary process.

I would be interested in learning more about this.  Does OTT have a web site?

After reading on the web OTT's process I wonder what it is that they patented.  I saw nothing that is much different than any edm operation with cut electrodes.  There must be something they didn't publish.

I think the patent is for the application.   Yes, people cut things with the EDM process.  Meanwhile, most everyone cutting barrel chambers is using reamers or CDC.  Mike Sirois is the first to apply EDM method to chambers, therefore the patent.
