It is a Steyr-Manlicher not a Mauser that uses this round.
ammo is expensive but not unobtainable... These are very robust
rifles and very handy as dense cover hunting rifles. Reloading component
are easily found except for the odd diameter projectile. I think Hornady
now produces loaded ammo in this caliber. but the source I have states that it is about a dollar a round. not for plinking, but a nice whitetail
or Hog rifle. Mine makes regular trips to the woods with me. Take care of
your boxer brass when you find it... You will not see much of it for long I'll bet.

There is two kinds of surplus ammo still available for the 8x56r one is nazi marked and the other isn't marked. I believe that sportsmans guide and Southern Ohio Gun still have this ammo in stock. You may want to try
www.midwayusa.com
for reloading dies & supplies.(brass & bullets) You cal look at Graf's & sons on the net too they carry a wide variety of military calibers and reloading stuff too so shop around and go with the cheapest.
