New here with Questions on H&R Ultra Varmint w/ Choate s
« on: February 27, 2006, 06:35:26 AM »
Hello there,
I have been eyeballing a heavy brl .223 for a couple of weeks and then last night at a sale at local sporting goods store I picked up a H&R Ultra Varmint with the 24" fluted brl and Choate stock and handguard.

The rifle feels great and I like the looks.  Right now I have a Nikon Buckmaster 6-18X40 mounted up and ready to head to the range this weekend.  I do reload and have a selection of Nosler bullets coming in and picked up som 45, 50 and 52 grain loaded ammo too.  Really can not wait to get out and see what it does.  I will shoot it first to see how it does and then start doing the mods and fixes listed here if it does not shoot as well as it should.

My question is about the loading and unloading, don't laugh yet.  When I insert a loaded round it pushes in against the extractor.  Now when I open the brl, the round is pulled out but does not eject.  Is it supposed to eject or just extract?  I had a NEF .410 as a kid but can not remembe it has been so long ago.  I tried using the search feature but kept getting no page display.

Also, can you guys with the Choate stock list the mods and fixs that you had to do to the synthetic handguard that helped accuarcy?

Thanks again and I love looking at he wealth of knowledge here.

BTW, where are the prarie dog towns a I can go shoot?????
