Yes I am sure I could do it. First and foremost I would not full length size them if it wasn't required anyway....regardless of dies. Try a case but just partial size it to get proper bullet fit....try it in your chamber.

The 450 Marlin is a fairly new round that will put the old 45 70 out to pasture :-D

If you are going to use it in more than one rifle I would say no. The belt could hang up in other chambers. But if you only use it in one gun I don't see why not.   KN

Wrong answer. The 450 Marlin was for the guys that wanted a factory round that was stronger than factory 45-70 ammo. Remember the factory rounds for the 45-70 are for the old trap door rifles and are loads as such. There are a few companies that have some hot 45-70 loads but they are not for the old 45-70 guns. The 45-70 can be hand loaded to do anything the 450 Marlin will do. Out to pasture?? I think not.   :D

I've been lurking on this one in case someone has done it.  Since the 450 Marlin has a belt, I'd think that it would get in the way of the 45-70 die.

castaway - it would only get in the way if you full length size the case. Thus my comment regarding not doing that......straight walled cases (as also mentioned) that are fired in the same gun typically do not require full length sizing.....just size the part of the case that holds the bullet. Cases will last longer too.

The case, although straight walled is tapered.  The question is: will not running the case into the die a "belts worth" allow the mouth to be sized properly to grip the bullet.  Surely, some one out there has both calibers to solve this greatest of mysteries.

It shouldn't be a problem. I dont size my 45/70 all the way to the base and they work fine. Same with my 444 marlins. Just enough that I still expand a little. Much easier on cases.  KN

Sizing your 450 brass with .45-70 dies is likely to result in undersize 450 brass.  Although both cases are about the same diameter at the case mouth, the 450 measures 0.512" ahead of the belt while the .45-70 measuere 0.504" ahead of the rim.

Just buy a set of 450 dies.
