Is there an Aftermarket scope rail that fits Handis?
« on: February 28, 2006, 07:54:24 AM »
I usually just use NEF's but I was wondering if another manufactures rails will fit and line up to the holes? Like Weaver, or Leupold..
I am sure there has to be one. :?

You can cut a slot in the weaver rail pretty easily using a file.

Sure can, that aluminum files pretty quick, but unless you use a real short scope it's not an issue. I had to file a slot using a 2.5x scope, with my 2x7's no problem.

The bigger problem with the weaver 82 that is harder to deal with than just adding slots is the rear slot is too far forward, there's a 1" flat at the back of the rail that puts the rear ring an inch ahead of the rear slot in the factory rail, about where the second slot is in the factory rail.

Well, first off thanks for the info, and pics.
Dang, I guess I 'll just have to order a couple from H&R then. Seeing that they seem to be the best over all choice. Just thought I would save a little time and go to the closest dealer and pick up one, but I didn't realize the difference was that much. Kinda sucks that these are Aluminum, but it's cost effective to be sure and a little lighter.
Is there no other rail that would fit?
Thanks Guys-Aaron

I have modified the Weaver 82 by cutting the flat section off, then drilling and counter boring 2 new holes to match the mount pattern, but you almost need a drill press to do it, it wouldn't be easy without one. What you end up with is a duplicate of the H&R rail for $7-$8.
