5-shot 45 Colt loads
« on: February 28, 2006, 10:50:29 AM »
I am having a very hard time coming up with load data for my Bowen 5-shot 45 Colt.  I found a little info in a Brian Pearce article in Handloader magazine, and between John Linebaugh and Bowen himself was given a few more suggestions, but I would be interested in further loads, particularly with the heavier LBT style cast bullets.  Any help much appreciated.

By the way, I am new to the site, but hope I can contribute!!  Thanks guys.

Hamilton Bowen should have some data for you.
You can use the data in your reloading manual and work up.  Flattening primers and hard extraction will probably be the first pressure signs you see.    You could look at Contender loads, but back off more than 10% before starting to work up.

I have some hot loads for my stock Vacquero.  I would not work any higher than them, even with a 5 shot cylinder.  Flattened primers and sticky extraction cautioned me from staying with a little hotter load.
