My primary bow is a Excalibur Exomag. This is a 200 pound pull bow, so it has lots of power for longer range (~40 yds) trajectory advantages. It is very quick (rated at about 320 fps), so there is little chance a moose will jump the string.
As a back-up I have an older Horton 150 pound compound crossbow. This bow gives me about 235 fps with my hunting bolts.
I feel that either of these bows is more than sufficient for taking deer or bear at reasonablt archery ranges.
The advantage (for me) is the simplicity of the Excalibur bow. It recurve limbs allow the use of a conventional string, and these strings can be changed very easily in the field as opposed to the necessity of having it done at a bowshop as is required with many compound bows.
Both of my bows have safeties and can be topped with optical sights.
