:D Howdy!  What would be a good crossbow for deer and black bear?  Also, it has to have a safety as well. Your views appreciated.
Happy Trails!

My primary bow is a Excalibur Exomag.  This is a 200 pound pull bow, so it has lots of power for longer range (~40 yds) trajectory advantages.  It is very quick (rated at about 320 fps), so there is little chance a moose will jump the string.

As a back-up I have an older Horton 150 pound compound crossbow.  This bow gives me about 235 fps with my hunting bolts.

I feel that either of these bows is more than sufficient for taking deer or bear at reasonablt archery ranges.

The advantage (for me) is the simplicity of the Excalibur bow.  It recurve limbs allow the use of a conventional string, and these strings can be changed very easily in the field as opposed to the necessity of having it done at a bowshop as is required with many compound bows.

Both of my bows have safeties and can be topped with optical sights.
Hunting is Exciting!  Bolt actions are BORING!!
Don't mix the two!

Every xbow I have seen from a major bow manufacturer has a safety built into it. the regs in most states and provinces your xbow must have a working safety either manual or automatic.
I am an Excalibur user for the last fifteen years and have had 12 excals from the Wolverine to the Exomag. the 175 lb Pheonix is your best bet for white tail and bear, with a speed of 310 fps and a 14 1/2 " draw. Unless your hunting Elk or moose you'll just have to look further for your bolts after they pass thru your kill.

I would say Excalibur, Vixen will work and is reasonable. The Phoenix is next and i own one. Its great! The Exocet and Exomag are upper end and fast and powerful. They all have great triggers and safeties. Simple changing of string in the field, doesn't have all that other stuff on limbs to get in the way. Accurate would put mine up against any compound type from 10 to 50 yds. shooting 3D deer or other target!
Keep yer nose into the wind & slip from tree to tree in the shadows, you have come fer pilgrim! Miss Vixen & Miss Phoenix, I am The Vixenmaster!
