I own one. An NXS 5.5x-22x-56mm Illuminated.
It is ONE HECK OF A SCOPE!!
It cost over $1,000.
It weighs a ton. The tube is double the thickness of a regular scope.
It has excellent glass - although not necessarily better than a Nikon Monarch, Elite 4200, Zeiss Conquest, or Leupold VX-III.
It has etched reticles like the Zeiss Conquest.
It has the best adjustments on any scope.
It has the best illuminated reticles, bar none.
It has excellent tracking.
It is used for many 1,000 yard bench rest competitions.
I have it mounted on a customized Remington 700 Sendero Stainless Fluted in Heavy Duty Warne Stainless Scope rings and bases.
The gun, with scope, weighs about as much as a Cruise ship's anchor.
However, it is super accurate, although I hardly ever shoot beyond 200 yards myself.
The bottom line is that Nightforce scopes, FOR HUNTING PURPOSES, is OVERKILL. More than that, it really is a waste of the extra money. You could get an excellent Leupold, Nikon, or similar scope for about half the price and double the practical use.
I use the gun and scope hunting because I use it stationary in a tree stand or blind. I would never (actually, given the weight, I COULD never) use it while hiking/hunting. It's really something that I wanted to buy for the heck of it and use every once in a while. It's more of a novelty for my intended purpose.
